Abstract: Objective To investigate the anticoagulation effect and the dosage of heparin administered by two ways in hemdialysis. Methods Sixty-four patients were enrolled in this study. The patients first received heparin by conventional administration method for anticoagulation in hemodialysis (intravenous group), then they were given the initial heparin by intra-arterial way (intra-arterial group). The initial dose, total dose of heparin and the coagulation grade of the two groups were recorded. Results The initial dose and total dose of heparin were significantly different between the two groups. The anticoagulation effect was grade 0 in 36 patients in the intra-arterial group, but in 16 cases in the intravenous group. Conclusion Intra-arterial administration of heparin in hemodialysis significantly reduces the dosage of heparin with satisfactory safety.
