Abstract:

Objective To investigate the influence of different membranes on the serum amino acid patterns of hemodialysis patients. Methods Thirty maintenance hemodialysis patients were equaly divided into polysulphone, cuprophan and reuse cuprophan group. Pre- and post-dialysis serum amino acid patterns of patients and amino acid in spent dialysate were detected by high performance liquid chromatography respectively. Results The serum amino acid patterns of patients in the three groups were no difference before dialysis. However, the levels of serum glutamic acid, glutamine, serine, cysteine, proline and tyrosine in polysulphone group, meanwhile serum aspartic acid and threonine in reuse cuprophan group decreased after dialysis (P<0.05), and no significant change of serum amino acid pattern was noted in cuprophan group. The losses of valine, leucine, isoleucine, serine and tyrosine were lower with reuse cuprophan than with cuprophan and polysulphone. Conclusions The physiochemical characteristics and biocompatibility of dialysis membrane influence the serum amino acid patterns of patients.
