Abstract: Indoxyl sulfate (IS) is a uremic toxin of intestinal origin. Recent studies have shown that the accumulation of IS in the body will not only lead to the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD), but also participate in the progression of cardiovascular disease, sarcopenia, cognitive impairment, osteopathy and anemia in CKD patients, thus reducing the quality of life and survival rate of CKD patients. This paper reviews the studies relating to the effects of IS on CKD and its complications in recent years, in order to provide new ideas for the prevention and intervention of CKD.
