Abstract: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is frequently associated with a variety of cerebral vascular diseases including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, and small vessel disease. Conventional vascular risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus account for many of the cerebral vascular diseases in CKD patients, and renal-specific risk factors such as uremic toxin, endothelial dysfunction and abnormal calcium and phosphate metabolism also play important roles in the pathogenesis of the diseases. In this paper we introduce the types and risk factors of cerebral vascular diseases in CKD patients, in order to prevent the occurrence and to improve the prognosis of cerebral vascular diseases in the patients.
