Abstract

【Abstract】Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of the structure and function of heart before and after hemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Methods Twenty eight patients with CRF were included in the study. Thirty healthy volunteers were chosen as normal control. The left ventricle structure and cardiac function were assessed with echocardiograph before and six months after emodialysis treatment. Results Six months after dialysis, blood pressure was significantly elevated, interventricular septum thickness and left ventricle myocardium weight increased significantly (P<0.01) while left ventricle diastolic function decreased (P<0.01). No significant change was observed in left ventricle posterior wall thickness before and after hemodialysis(P>0.05). Conclusion The patients with CRF were suffered from left ventricle myocardium hypertrophy and left ventricle diastolic dysfunction after long term bicarbonate dialysis. It was suggested that left ventricle remodeling and diastolic dysfunction were common complications of dialysis treatment.
