Abstract
Objective To observe serum free carnitine(SFC) level in maintenance hemodialysis patients and its relation to their serum lipid level. Meathods Sixty maintenance hemodialysis patients were randomly divided into 2 groups, therapy group:L-carnitine 1.0g intravenously infuse after every dialysissession;control group were given saline 5ml. We observed for 12 weeks. The concentration of SFC was tested with ex-violet enzyme technique, and the other index were tested with routine method. Results In therapy group, the concentration of SFC was significantly increased (P<0.01), total cholesterol and triglyceride was decreased (P<0.05), and high density lipoprotein (HDL) in value was higher than in control group (P<0.05). Low density lipoprotein (LDL) did not change significantly, and there is also no significant change of serum lipid level in control group. Conclusion In maintenance hemodialysis patients, L-carnitine absence and metabolism disorder of serum lipid are widespread and its complementation can singnificantly increase the use of fat and improve the disorder condition
