Abstract
Objective To observe the influence of hemodialysis and kidney transplanta-tion on cardiac structure in uremic patients. Methods Seven patients were studied before treatment, 6 month later of hemodialysis and 3 month later of kidney transplantation. The left ventricular and atrium size and many factors, such as blood pressure, hemoglobin, urea nitrogen, which may influenced on cardiac structure were measured and analyzed. Results There were no significant difference of hypertension before and after treatment. The degree of anemia and the level of uremic toxin in blood were improved partially by treatment of hemodialysis, there were no significant changes of left ventricular and atrium size before and after hemodialysis. But all of the factors, such as anemia, uremic toxin except hypertension were thoroughly corrected and the size of left ventricular and atrium significantly decreased after kidney transplantation. Conclusion The anemia and uremic toxins are more important factors than hypertension on influencing left cardiac chamber size of uremic patients.
