Objective To study the effect of artificial liver support system(ALSS) combined with Yinzhihuang injection and heptocyte growth factor (HGF) on severe hepatitis. Methods Thirty-nine patients with severe hepatitis were treated with ALSS, Yinzhihuang injection and HGF. Fifty-four severe hepatitis patients treated with Yinzhihuang injecition and HGF only were as controls. Results The patients clinical synptoms relieved improving rate and their liver functions were obviously improved after the treatment of plasmaexchange. The improring rate in general was 56.4% (22/39). But, the improving rate ingeneral in control group means was 29.6% (16/54). Conclusions The treatment of ALSS combined with Yinzhihuang injecfion and HGF is an effective and safe thearpy for severe hepatitis. The therapy should be used in early stage. 
