Abstract
Objective To study the laboratory rat's feeds with different phosphorus(P) and calcium(Ca) contents for research on the metabolism of P. Methods AIN-93G formulat was modified partly to manufacture the feeds with different P and Ca contents. The high-P and low-P feeds were fed to the CRF rats or sham operation control rats respectively for two weeks. The levels of serum ionized calcium, phosphorus, iPTH and 1,25-(OH)2D3 were observed. Results The high-P diet contains 1.2% P and 1.6% Ca,and the low one contains 0.2% P and 0.5% Ca. After two weeks, serum P and iPTH levels in CRF rats fed with high-P feeds were significantly higher than those of CRF rats fed with low-P feeds (P 3.93±0.27 vs 2.42±0.84 mmol/L, P<0.05; PTH 75.50 ± 20.19 vs 30.55 ± 2.33pg/ml, P<0.05, respectively), but there were no significant difference in serum ionized calcium and 1,25-(OH)2D3. Conclusion The formula of feeds for the laboratory rats in this experiment can fit for the requirement of research on the phosphorus metabolism.
