Abstract
Objective To evaluate the relationship between inflammation and serum albumin levels in hemodialysis patients. Methods Serum albumin of 56 hemodialysis patients were measured and serum interleukin-6(IL-6), high sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)and fibrinogen concentration served as inflammation indexes were measured at the same time. Results Serum IL-6,hs-CRP and fibrinogen concentration were significantly higher in patents with serum albumin level lower than 40g/L(P<0.01).In a stepwise multivariate regression analysis, adjusting for age, significant association was observed between serum albumin level and IL-6 concentration. Conclusion The presence of inflammation is associated with the serum albumin level in hemodialysis patients.
