Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of minoxidil for hemodialysis patients with refractory hypertension. Methods Eleven hemodialysis patients with refractory hypertension were treated with minoxidil and other antihyperten-sive medicine. The effect and side-effect were analyzed. Results The obvious efficiency rate is 95%(10/11), and efficiency rate is 100%(11/11) after one month of minoxidil treatment. There was no effect on renal function in hemodialysis patients during the minoxidil treatment. When the dose of minoxidil was 5mg/d, hair growth was present in all patients after one month of treatment. When the dosage decreased to 2.5mg/d, hair growth slowed down in patients. Reflex increase of heart rate, pericardial effusion and fluid retention was not found during minoxidil treatment. Conclusion Minoxidil is highly effective in the management of severe hypertension with other antihypertensive medicine in hemodialysis patients, and the side-effects can be accepted by hemodialysis patients.
