Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of DNA immunoadsorbent for hemoperfusion on systemic lupus erythematosus nephritis. Methods Sixteen active lupus nephritis (LN) patients were enrolled and treated by hemoperfusion with DNA immunoadsorbent. The symptoms, skin damage and proteinuria were observed. The levels of anti-nuclear antibody and anti-dsDNA antibody were tested to observe the effect of immunoadsorbent. Renal function, hepatic function, electrolyte, immunoglobulin and blood cells were monitored to evaluate the biocompatibility. Results There were significant amelioration of symptoms, skin damage and proteinuria. The levels of anti-nuclear antibody were decreased significantly(P=0.0001). Anti-dsDNA antibodys were removed completely. There were no significant change of renal function, hepatic function, electrolyte, immunoglobulin and blood cells. Conclusion Hemoperfusion with DNA immunoadsorbent was an effective and specific new technique to treat LN. Little adverse reaction will make it more widely applied in clinical practice
