Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of pravastatin on arterial elasticity in hemodialysis patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods Fourty-two patients with type 2 diabetes undergoing hemodialysis were randomly divided into therapy group (22 patients) and control group (22 patients). Pravastatin was administered 20mg/day for 25 weeks. total cholesteral (TC), triglyceride(TG),C-reactive protein (CRP), high density lipoprotein cholesteral (HDL-C) low density lipoprotein cholesteral (LDL-C), and oridated LDL(ox-LDL) were measured. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) and ankle brachial indexes (ABI) were detected. Results Before the therapy, there were no differences in age, blood pressure, body mass index, serum TC、TG、CRP、HDL-C、LDL-C、ox-LDL levels, PWV or ABI between therapy group and control group. After the therapy, the PWV and the serum Ox- LDL-C level increased significantly in control group [from (9.78 ±2.13) to (11.36±2.37)m/s and (81.70±8.50) to (87.9±7.80)mmol/L, respectively]. There was a significant deorease of PWV [from (9.41±2.31) to (7.43±2.00) m/s], ox-LDL [from(89.8±5.10) to (74.40±2.90) mmol/L] and CRP [from(1.01±0.17) to(0.33±0.16)mmol/L] in the therapy group. Conclusion Arterial elasticity dearease in hemodialysis patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pravastatin could improve arterial elasticity and decrease serum CRP levels.
